Hornets Fight to Double Overtime, Fall in a Close One in Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, PR - The Lynchburg College women's basketball team kicked off action in the Puerto Rico Classico on Friday afternoon with a 69-65 double overtime loss to Albright College.

The Hornets led 32-29 at halftime and jumped out to a 50-41 advantage in the second half, the largest lead for either team.

Charmaine Hairston had 16 of the Hornets' 32 first-half points, finishing with a game-high 19.

Albright fought back in the second half to force overtime as a three-point bank shot made the scored 54-54 just before time expired.

Both teams fought through one overtime period, tied at 58 as the squads headed to the deciding period.

Albright led 66-65 with 15 seconds left and shooting 1-and-1, but missed the second free throw. Lynchburg grabbed the rebound and had a chance to force the game's 10th tie, but the shot rimmed out. The Lions grabbed the board and free throws ended it.

In addition to 19 points from Hairston, Shannon Allan had 14 points and 13 boards while Chaney Forbush led all players with 17 rebounds. Lauren Penley added nine points and 12 rebounds.

Kelecia Harris led Albright (7-3) with 15 points and 14 rebounds while Shannon Thomas and Jane Joyce contributed 14 and 13 points respectively.

Lynchburg (6-3) faces No. 10 Williams College (9-0) Sunday at 11 a.m. to conclude action in Puerto Rico.
