Lynchburg Women Shut Down Shenandoah 74-28
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College women's basketball team limited Shenandoah University to only 28 points and forced 28 turnovers Saturday en route to a commanding 74-28 win in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.
Lynchburg (5-2, 2-0 ODAC) started out slow, trailing 8-5 four minutes in, but reeled off nine straight points to take a 14-8 lead at the 12-minute mark. The lead continued to balloon from there as crisp ball movement from LC and stifling defensive pressure wore down Shenandoah (5-2, 1-1 ODAC). Lynchburg would lead by at least 20 points the entire second half.
Freshman Caroline Naumann had a career game off the bench, tallying 14 points and nine rebounds in just 15 minutes. She made 6-of-9 shots and drained her lone three-point attempt. Chaney Forbush tallied 13 points and six boards in 13 minutes. Freshman Olivia DeFrancesco also had the best performance of her young career, contributing 10 points, four steals, and two assists in a season-high 21 minutes off the bench. Sammi Goldsmith had an impressive stat line of eight points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals, and Sarah Coronel recorded six steals on the afternoon. Lauren Penley posted eight points and eight rebounds and Sarah Coon delivered seven points, five rebounds and three steals. Shannon Allan contributed seven points, five rebounds and four assists.
Erin French led Shenandoah with 10 points and nine caroms.
LC shot 47% (27-58) overall compared to just 21% (10-48) for SU. Lynchburg was +19 (47-28) on the glass and converted 28 forced turnovers into 28 points. LC was also effective on offensive rebounds, turning 13 offensive boards into 17 second chance points.
LC returns to the court on Tuesday, December 16, for a 4 p.m. contest at Ferrum College.
