Hornets Drop 4-1 Decision to York (PA)

YORK, PA – The Lynchburg College field hockey team lost to York (PA) College 4-1 on Saturday in non-conference action. 

Lynchburg came out firing early on in the game, notching four shots on goal and one more overall in the first 10 minutes.  Jessica Everett stopped all four shots that got to her and the other was blocked, preserving the 0-0 action.  Following that spree, Au Posey took a pass from the right wing, and sent her shot into the back of the cage to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead.

LC then responded two minutes later to tie the score.  After Kelsey Link inserted the ball on a penalty corner, Courtney Gillete eventually gained possession off a pass from Kayla Krause and sent it past Everett towards the left post to tie the score.

However, YC would not allow the game to stay tied for long.  At 18:36, Autumn Mallory scored her first goal of the afternoon, knocking the ball into the back of the cage for the 2-1 lead, an advantage the Spartans would not relinquish.

In the second half, Mallory notched her second and assisted on Shanla Gelvin's goal, to give York the 4-1 victory.

Everett made only one more save for the Spartans (8-2 overall) and it came in the first half as well.  Beka Hess stopped five shots for Lynchburg with all of the saves coming in the second half.  Despite being outshot by YC, LC finished with 9-6 advantage in penalty corners, amassing eight before the intermission.

The Hornets (4-6) complete their three-game road trip on Tuesday as they take on the Royals of Eastern Mennonite University.  The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) clash will start at 6:30 p.m.
