#4 Captains Pull Away Late for 3-0 Victory over #19 Lynchburg

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - No. 19 Lynchburg College lost its second field hockey game in a week Wednesday afternoon as No. 4 Christopher Newport University pulled away for a 3-0 victory in non-conference action.

It was the first game against a ranked team this year for the Hornets, who proved to be evenly matched against the Captains in the first half.

CNU started the scoring at 7:31 when she hit the ball past the keeper for an unassisted score. That was the only score before intermission as both team managed just two shots on goal against the vaunted defensive units.

Lynchburg maintained a 3-1 advantage in penalty corners in the second half, but Bailey Lien made three saves for the Captains to preserve the victory.

Taylor Williams and Belle Tunstall added goals for Christopher Newport (2-0) while Tunstall and Allie Hackbarth contributed assists late to pull away.

Beka Hess made six saves for Lynchburg.

Lynchburg (1-2) hosts Alvernia University (1-0) Saturday morning at 11 a.m. in the home opener for the Hornets.
