Randolph-Macon Defeats LC Women 75-56
LYNCHBURG, VA – Behind a strong defensive effort, the Randolph-Macon College women's basketball team defeated Lynchburg College 75-56 Tuesday in a battle of two of the top teams in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC).
The Yellow Jackets forged a 42-29 halftime lead, and took a 15-point edge early in the second half. The Hornets used an 8-0 run, with a layup and three-pointer by junior Chaney Forbush, to cut the edge to seven at 45-38 with 15:47 left on the game clock. But that was as close as LC would get, as R-MC led by double figures the last 12 minutes.
Forbush led Lynchburg with 17 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out late. Shannon Allan posted 10 points, five rebounds and three assists and Charmaine Hairston tallied nine points and seven rebounds. Lauren Penley and Olivia DeFrancesco each added seven points. The Hornets enjoyed a 47-33 rebounding advantage on the night.
Katie Anderson paced Randolph-Macon (9-2/2-1 ODAC) with 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting. Sarah Parsons had 18 points, four assists and three steals while Kareema Conteh posted 15 points. The Yellow Jacket defense forced LC into shooting just 29 percent from the floor (16-56) and eight percent from three-point range (1-13).
The Hornets (6-5/2-1) travel to Bridgewater College Saturday for another ODAC contest Saturday at 2 p.m.
