Big Second Half Gives LC Field Hockey 8-0 win over Va. Wesleyan
LYNCHBURG, VA – The 12th-ranked Lynchburg College field hockey team scored seven second half-goals to coast to an 8-0 win over visiting Virginia Wesleyan College Saturday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action over Homecoming weekend.
Freshman midfielder Nikki Simpao put in a penalty stroke 14 minutes into the game and that 1-0 lead stood up through the first half.
The Hornets quickly struck for a goal after intermission as Morgan Lammando tipped in a pass from Lacey Elliott. Lammando scored again at the 44:39 mark from Meredith Bradsher, and Kayla Copeman followed on a crossing passing from Elliott to put LC ahead 4-0.
Lynchburg scored three times in less than two minutes, with tallies by Bradsher, Sydney Rampey and Copeman. Isabella Eldridge and Simpao had assists in the quick three-goal surge. Rampey scored again in the closing minutes on a long crossing pass from Elaine Ritschard.
LC out-shot VWC 32-7 and held a 10-2 edge in penalty corners.
Skye Swain made 11 saves for the Marlins (5-10/1-2 ODAC) and Morgan Lee made two defensive saves. Copeman and Lammando finished with two goals and Bradsher and Simpao each had an assist. Beka Hess and Sarah Suter combined for three saves between the pipes.
Lynchburg (11-2/3-1) faces off with fifth-ranked Salisbury University Monday at 6 p.m. at a game to be played at Christopher Newport University.
