Rogerson Scores Twice to Lead #11 Field Hockey 4-0 Past Ferrum
FERRUM, VA – After bumping up to #11 in the national rankings this week, Catherine Rogerson scored two goals to lead the Lynchburg College field hockey team to a 4-0 win at Ferrum College in the non-conference contest held on Wednesday night.
Rogerson, a senior attack, hit the boards for the first time three minutes into the game when
Nikki Simpao crossed it to her from left to right for the goal. The Hornets would score again in the 18
th minute as
Kayla Copeman found senior
Morgan Lammando to make it 2-0.
After the break, Copeman assisted a teammate once more as this time she dished out a helper to Simpao at the 44:09 mark. Rogerson scored the game's final tally when sophomore
Elaine Ritschard set her up for goal number two at 56:32, resulting in the 4-0 final score.
LC controlled the majority of the competition and held a 20-2 advantage in shots and a 14-0 lead in penalty corners while forcing goalkeeper Courtney Gosslin to save eight for Ferrum (1-13). Sarah Suter was credited with one save in goal for Lynchburg (12-3) to aid in the shutout for the defense.
The Hornets will play their final away game of the regular season Saturday as they travel to Winchester to take on Shenandoah University, who currently sits atop the Old Dominion Athletic Conference with a 5-0 conference record. The 1 p.m. matchup will go a long way to determine who will finish in first place in the standings and host the ODAC playoffs in early November.
