LC Field Hockey Rolls to 7-0 win over EMU
LYNCHBURG, VA – Senior Morgan Lammando and freshman Nikki Simpao each scored twice Thursday night to help give the Lynchburg College field hockey team a 7-0 win over Eastern Mennonite University in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match.
Freshman attack Isabella Eldridge opened the scoring 14 minutes into play on a centering pass from freshman Kayla Copeman. Senior Meredith Bradsher found the back of the cage 37 seconds later, and Lammando made it a 3-0 game heading into halftime.
Megan McAnally fired in an unassisted goal right after intermission, and Lammando had another score while Simpao posted two in the second half. Karissa LeMaire and Elaine Ritschard each had assists.
Kelsey Troyer made 13 saves for EMU (3-14/0-7 ODAC). LC out-shot the Royals 41-4 and held a 14-4 edge in penalty corners.
The win moves (14-3/5-1 ODAC - ranked #14 in NCAA D3 this week) into a three-way tie for first place in the ODAC with Washington & Lee University and Bridgewater College. The Generals and Eagles square off Saturday at 1 p.m. while the Hornets host Randolph-Macon College (2-4) at the same time. An LC win paired with a Bridgewater victory would give the Hornets the #1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament, while a W&L win would earn the Generals the top seed.
