Isabella Eldridge Posts Hat Trick as LC Field Hockey Defeats RMC 4-1
LYNCHBURG, VA – Lynchburg College freshman attack Isabella Eldridge showed how bright the future is Saturday on Senior Day, posting a hat trick to give the Hornets a 4-1 victory over Randolph-Macon College in the last Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game of the regular season.
Lynchburg, ranked #14 in NCAA Division III this week, will enter the 2015 ODAC Championship Tournament as the #2 seed and earn a first round bye. The Hornets will face the winner of the #3 Bridgewater College vs. #6 Virginia Wesleyan College contest next weekend at Washington & Lee University, the top seed and the host of the two semifinal games and title matchup.
Senior Morgan Lammando opened the scoring for LC at the 6:44 mark, deflecting a ball from fellow senior Meredith Bradsher into the back of the cage. Yellow Jacket Kali Carroll answered with a tally two minutes later on a feed from Kaitee Nicholas before Eldridge took the game over. She struck 14 minutes into the first half on a feed from Nikki Simpao and added her second goal at the 27-minute mark. Eldridge completed the hat trick at 50:43, again from Simpao.
The Hornets had large advantages in both shots (31-3) and penalty corners (13-1). Goalie Kelsey Stanley made 17 saves for RMC (10-8/2-5 ODAC).
Lynchburg ends the regular season 15-3 and 6-1 in the conference. The Hornets will look to earn their 10th-straight ODAC title Friday and Saturday, November 6-7 in Lexington, VA.
