Hornet Women Breeze to 72-35 Win over Hollins
LYNCHBURG, VA – A total of 12 Hornet student-athletes got in the scoring column Tuesday evening as the Lynchburg College women's basketball team rolled to a 72-35 victory over Hollins University in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
The Hornets scored the first seven points of the game and took a 24-9 lead with nine minutes left in the first half. LC closed the half on a 9-0 run to extend the advantage to 38-14 at intermission.
Lynchburg opened a 40-point second half edge after beginning with a 23-7 run.
Shannon Allan scored a team-high 11 points and added five assists and four rebounds. Olivia DeFrancesco also had 11 points and Charmaine Hairston added 10 points. Sammi Goldsmith contributed eight points, nine assists, six rebounds and three steals while Lauren Penley scored eight. Caroline Naumann grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
Jewellanna Parfitt scored a game-high 14 points and grabbed a team-best eight rebounds for Hollins (2-18/0-11 ODAC). LC enjoyed a 52-29 rebounding advantage on the evening and forced the visitors into just 19 percent shooting (9-48).
The Hornets (14-6/9-2) host Washington & Lee University Saturday at 2 p.m. Allan and Penley will be honored before the game on Senior Day.
