Frances Foster Has Hat Trick as Hornet Women's Soccer Defeats Salem 5-0
LYNCHBURG, VA – Sophomore forward Frances Foster delivered a hat trick and an assist Wednesday as the Lynchburg College women's soccer team defeated Salem College (NC) 5-0 in non-conference action.
LC peppered the Salem net for the first 25 minutes before finding the back of the net. Freshman Caitlin Mertens knocked in a crossing pass from Foster at the 29:26 mark of the first half for the game's first goal. The two switched roles two minutes later, as Foster finished off a pass from Mertens for a two-goal edge. Foster struck again just before the half on a feed from Sarah Hammock.
Sophomore Hannah Olds put Lynchburg up 4-0 just after intermission from senior Jade Woll. Foster got the hat trick midway through the second half on a feed from Elizabeth Oden.
LC out-shot the Spirits 49-1 and held a 10-1 edge in corner kicks. Kimberlee Templeton made nine stops for Salem (4-2).
The Hornets (5-0) have an important weekend at home. The top-ranked team in NCAA Division III opens Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Friday at 7 p.m. against Roanoke College, and faces #5 Trinity University (TX) Sunday at 11 a.m.
