#17 Field Hockey Gets by Wesley 3-0
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College field hockey team knocked off Wesley College 3-0 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Shellenberger Field.
The Hornets were looking to avenge their season-opening 2-1 overtime loss to the Wolverines from last season, and Lynchburg got out to a hot first half to make sure that could happen.
Kayla Copeman crossed the ball to her teammate Lacey Elliott, who scored 6:44 into the game. Lynchburg later capitalized one of its five corners from the first half, when Meredith Bradsher found the back of the cage by way of an insert from midfielder Karissa LeMaire in the 30th minute of play. LC scored once more before halftime as Kristina Geisler's pass into the center of the circle found Elaine Ritschard. Ritschard scooped the ball into the top left of the net to extend the Hornets' lead to three.
The 3-0 score would hold the rest of the game, as the Hornet defense posted their second shutout of the season. Beka Hess and Sarah Suter were strong and active in goal, aiding the defensive line in holding the visitors scoreless.
Kayla Fromal, goalkeeper for Wesley (1-6), led the Wolverine defense with 12 saves on Lynchburg's 20 total shots.
With the win, 17th-ranked Lynchburg moves to 6-0 on the season. They will play their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup next Tuesday at Roanoke College at 7 p.m.
