#1 Hornet Women's Soccer Outlasts Elizabethtown 1-0

SALEM, VA – The Lynchburg College women's soccer team, ranked #1 in NCAA Division III, defeated Elizabethtown College 1-0 Saturday in the first match of the Hornets' season after the program captured the national title in 2014. The game opened play at the two-day Roanoke College Kickoff Tournament.

Junior midfielder Marina Clark netted the game's only goal at the 22:30 mark on a direct kick just outside the box. Neither team could score the rest of the way, although LC hit the crossbar and post later in the match but couldn't add an insurance tally.    

The Hornets outshot the Blue Jays 10-2 and held a 5-0 edge in corner kicks. Tess Frelick made one save to preserve the shutout.

Maddie Burkhart stopped three shots for Elizabethtown (0-1).

Lynchburg will square off with John Carroll University (OH) Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
