Offensive Surge Helps Field Hockey Blank Wesley, 4-0

Box Score

Dover, Dela. -- An exceptional performce from the Hornets, both offensively and defensively, secures the victory over Wesley College on Sunday afternoon, 4-0.

Lynchburg broke open the scoring in the 13th minute when junor Karissa LeMaire inserted a corner to freshman Keely Lunsmann who drove a shot which was deflected off the pads of the Wesley goalkeeper but straight to freshman Katelynn Fuhr who finished it and recorded her first goal of the season.

With just under six minutes to play in the first half, a long ball was played to sophomore Nikki Simpao who passed it to sophomore Mallory Henderson right in front of net with which she one-timed and fund the back of the net, giving Lynchburg a 2-0 lead going into halftime.

The defense for the Hornets was just as powerful as the offense in the first half allowing only two shots, only one of which was on frame and saved by senior goalkeeper Beka Hess. With only four shots from the Wolverines, that was the only save for Hess the entire game as she recorded the win and shutout, improving to 4-4 on the season.

The second half was a mirror image of the first half as Lynchburg dominated both sides of the ball.

Junior Lacey Elliott netted her fourth goal of the 2016 campaign after chipping a pass from sophomore Kayla Copeman into the cage and extending the Hornet lead to three. Junior Hannah Krause rounded out the scoring for Lynchburg with a rocket of a shot following a pass from Simpao after a penalty corner. Freshman goalkeeper Hannah Chapman entered the game after the final Hornet goal and recorded 14 minutes on the field.

Twelve Hornets recorded shots in the victory as Lynchburg held the advantage over Wesley in shots, 24-2. Krause (5), Simpao (4), and senior Alyssa Mills (3) led the Hornets in shots while Lunsmann, Fuhr and Copeman added two each.

With the win Lynchburg improves to 3-4 on the season and will look to add another tally to the W column as they travel down Route 29 for a conference clash with Sweet Briar at 4:00 p.m. this Tuesday, Oct. 4.
