Goulding Tosses Gem but LC Baseball Falls to #1 Cortland State 4-0

FAYETTEVILLE, NC – Sophomore David Goulding threw an outstanding game Saturday evening against the top-ranked team in NCAA Division III, but Cortland State defeated the Lynchburg College baseball team 4-0 in the Methodist University Diamond Classic.

The Red Dragons scored an unearned run in the top of the first inning, but Goulding shut down the nation's top ranked team over the next five frames. Cortland pushed a run across in the seventh on a sacrifice fly and tacked on two insurance runs in the top of the ninth. Goulding scattered six hits and four walks over 8 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts. Ryan Irby worked 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Joe Tomasulo had a hit and two free passes for the Hornets.

Tanner Whiteman earned the win for Cortland State (6-0), hurling six innings of two-hit ball. Fabio Ricci was 2-2 with two runs scored.

Lynchburg (3-6) finishes play at the Diamond Invitational Sunday against host school Methodist at 2 p.m.
