LC Baseball Drops 5-4 14-inning heartbreaker to Guilford
GREENSBORO, NC – The Lynchburg College baseball team held a 4-3 lead in the 14th inning Wednesday, but Guilford College rallied for a 5-4 win in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
LC scored a run in the top of the third. Joe Tomasulo reached on a fielder's choice and Jonathan Munn followed with a double. Brad Hylton singled to bring home Tomasulo.
The Hornets made it 2-0 with a run on a double play in the fifth and tacked on another run in the seventh. Drew Taylor doubled, followed by a single from Nathan Sharp. Tomasulo singled to make it a three-run game.
The Quakers' Joe Metts hit a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh, followed by a single from Chuck Noble to tie the game at 3-3.
The score remained three-all until the top of the 14th, when Lynchburg broke the tie. Sharp was hit by a pitch, and with two outs stole second. Matthew Stevens hit a single to put Lynchburg ahead 4-3. A single and a walk with the bases loaded gave GC the victory in the bottom of the 14th.
Tomasulo, Munn and Hylton each had two hits for Lynchburg. David Goulding started and tossed six innings, allowing four hits, one walk and no hits to go with five strikeouts, Ryan Irby threw six scoreless innings of relief, scattering four hits with no walks and three strikeouts.
Brann had three hits for Guilford (13-14/3-8 ODAC).
The Hornets (7-19/3-8 ODAC) host Roanoke College Tuesday at 3 p.m. in another ODAC game.
