Men's Lacrosse Wins at Randolph 14-4
LYNCHBURG, VA - Behind four goals and one assist from
Austin Stewart, the Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team defeated cross-town foe Randolph College 14-4 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play on Tuesday night.
Stewart scored his first goal of the night a minute and six seconds into play to get the Hornets rolling.
Chris Camarca found the senior attackman once more for LC's second goal at 8:44.
Randolph's Andrew Gleitz scored with four minutes to go, making the score 2-1. But Lynchburg senior midfielder
Jacob Fuller ripped one in to put his team up by two with 1:11 remaining in the opening quarter.
The second period was all Lynchburg, holding the WildCats scoreless during that time while the Hornets scored four with tallies from
Evan Lombardo (2),
Cole Barrett, and
Ryan Kardux.
Lynchburg kept its streak of goals going into the second half as
Chris Cornelius dished out a pass to Stewart for his third goal of the contest. That streak would stop at six, though, as Gleitz got one by the Hornet net minder for the second time. Scores from
Aaron Murphy, Stewart (EMO), and an acrobatic finish from freshman
Andrew Thomas extended the Lynchburg lead to 11-2 before Randolph's Gleitz snuck in his third. Finally,
Danny Czerkawski won a face-off attempt and charged down the field for a score to round out the scoring from the third quarter.
Camarca received a nice cross-field look from teammate
Daniel Owens on a man-up opportunity at 10:56, and freshman
Andrew Gross found the back of the net to add the final LC goal.
Lynchburg dominated most statistical categories including shots (56-28), ground balls (40-27), and face offs (17-5).
Bobby Distler was 11-13 at the X, scooping up a team-high five loose balls. Senior defenseman
Ryan Connors had three caused turnovers and was part the Hornet defense which successfully cleared 22 of its 25 attempts.
Randolph (7-6/1-4 ODAC) was led by Gleitz's three scores. Defensively, Cam Davis made 11 saves in net for the WildCats in the first half while defensemen Baden James and Spencer Matthews each had three caused turnovers throughout the contest.
By knocking off Randolph for the ninth straight time, Lynchburg (7-6/4-1) returns to winning ways and is currently tied for second in the ODAC standings. Next, the Hornets finish up their stretch of games on the road at Hampden-Sydney College on Saturday at 5 p.m.
