LC Baseball Drops Pair to #11 Shenandoah on Senior Day

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College baseball team was swept in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader by Shenandoah University Saturday, 4-1 in game one and 8-2 in the second game. The Hornets' five seniors were honored in a pre-game ceremony on Senior Day. Lynchburg's soon-to-be retiring Vice President and Dean for Student Development John Eccles threw out the first pitch as a part of the campus-wide "Day of Eccles" celebration.

LC got on the scoreboard first in the opener. Jonathan Munn crossed home plate on an RBI double from Will Harris in the second inning. SU countered with two in the top of the third, as Jake Loew brought home both runs with a two-out single.

The visitors put together three hits in the top of the eighth to send home two insurance runs and make the score 4-1.

Darrell Thompson worked 8 1/3 innings to earn the win for Shenandoah, scattering four hits with six strikeouts. Phil Morse recorded the last two outs for save and Tristan Baker rapped two hits for SU.

David Goulding allowed just two earned runs over eight frames for the Hornets.

Shenandoah took a 3-0 lead in the nightcap, with single runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings. Joe Tomasulo led off the sixth with a triple for LC, and later scored on a wild pitch. SU added two more runs in the top of the seventh and three in the eighth.

Senior starter Trevor Martin threw his last collegiate game, going 6 1/3 innings and holding one of the top teams in Division III to seven hits and three earned runs. Tomasulo went 3-3, also in his final collegiate contest, and Matt Ward and Griffin Wild each had two hits for Lynchburg (9-28/5-15 ODAC).

Shenandoah (30-8/15-5) had five players with two hits apiece and will enter the upcoming conference tournament as the #1 seed.
