The Hornets traversed the Blue Ridge Mountains and braved the wintery roads left by Winter Storm Helena to head to Harrisonburg, Va. for a ODAC tilt with the Bridgewater (Va.) Eagles. Lynchburg controlled the tempo and were only outscored in one quarter. The bench came up big for the Hornets as they downed the Eagles, 70-55.

Game Breakdown

- Recording her eighth game with double digit points, sophomore Molly Shephard netted 14 points to go along with seven rebounds

- The senior duo of Charmaine Hairston and Sarah Coronel combined for 25 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, four steals and one block

- Junior Brittany Afolabi-Brown pitched in with 10 points, freshman Carolyn Noe added nine more while juniors Olivia DeFrancesco and Caroline Naumann both registered six points

Beyond the Stat Sheet

- The Hornets matched season-highs in steals (16) and blocks (6) in the victory

- With the win, Lynchburg moves into sole possession of first-place in the ODAC after Emory & Henry fell to Randolph-Macon on Saturday

- Lynchburg boasts two of the top shooters, in terms of efficiency, as Shephard leads the league, shooting 58.5% from the field and Afolabi-Brown is not far behind at 55.3%

- Despite averaging over 20 PPG, the Hornets defense shutdown the ODAC's top scorer, Jessica Lam, and held her to just seven points

A Look Ahead

The Battle for the Hill City is up next for the women's team. Next Wednesday, the Lynchburg Hornets and Randolph Wildcats will face-off in Turner Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m. Randolph boasts one of the top rebounders in the conference in Alexis Calloway, who is grabbing on average 10.3 boards/game.
