Field hockey blasts Ferrum, 10-1, on the road

Box Score

Ferrum, Va. -- The top two scorers in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference continued to power the Lynchburg College field hockey team Thursday evening, leading the Hornets to a 10-1 non-conference victory over Ferrum.

Lynchburg's Nikki Simpao (Stafford, Va.) and Jackie Lerro (Royersford, Pa.) , who rank first and second, respectively, in the ODAC in points, did the trick again Thursday. The duo combined for seven goals and three assists in the winning effort.

The 10 goals are the most Lynchburg has scored in a game this season, and Thursday's was the Hornets' seventh-consecutive win.

THE RUNDOWN

Final: Lynchburg 10, Ferrum 1

Records: Lynchburg 13-3, Ferrum 3-12

Venue: W.B. Adams Stadium, Ferrum College, Ferrum, Va.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Lynchburg wasted no time out of the gate, as Lerro scored in the first minute on Simpao's assist. The two teamed up again in the 10th minute to extend the lead.

- SImpao put the game out of reach early, scoring consecutive goals in the 14th, 16th, and 28th minutes. Lerro assisted one, and Lacey Elliott (Newport News, Va.) found her for another. Emily Dudley (Westminster, Md.) added the Hornets' sixth goal just before halftime, assisted by Karissa LeMaire (Rehoboth Beach, Del.).

- Lerro and Simpao each added another score after halftime, as did Isabella Eldridge (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) and Mallory Henderson (Yorktown, Va.). Kayla Copeman (Williamsburg, Va.) assisted two of the second-half scores, and freshman Margaret Chiappazzi (Poquoson, Va.) picked up her first collegiate assist on Henderson's goal in the 69th minute.

- Ferrum broke up the shutout in the 63rd minute with a Sierra Magdaleno goal.

LOOKING AHEAD

Lynchburg will return to Shellenberger Field on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 4 p.m. to celebrate Senior Day and Homecoming. The Hornets will take on ODAC rival Randolph-Macon.
