Lynchburg, Va. -- Senior point guard Olivia DeFrancesco (Greensboro, N.C.) made history Wednesday night in leading the Lynchburg College women's basketball team to a 58-43 Old Dominion Athletic Conference win over visiting Guilford.

DeFrancesco paced the Hornets with 19 points in the key ODAC win, but the night marked a career milestone as well. Her 3-pointer with 8:08 remaining in the second quarter tied the program's career mark for treys, and she sank another with 1:58 remaining in the perod -- her 140th of a stellar career -- to break the record.

The previous career record didn't last long. DeFrancesco takes the crown from her former teammate, Charmaine Hairston ('17), who set the mark last season.

DeFrancesco added seven rebounds, four assists, three steals, and two blocks, and the rest of the Hornets gave her plenty of help. Junior forward Molly Shephard (Charlottesville, Va.) scored 12 points to go with 10 rebounds in her fourth double-double of the season, and wings Brittany Afolabi-Brown (Montgomery Village, Md.) and Alex Allen (China Grove, N.C.) contributed eight points apiece.

The meeting was a rematch of the last two ODAC women's basketball championship games, and the two teams have split their last eight meetings with four wins apiece.

Lynchburg remains tied with Randolph-Macon atop the conference standings with identical 9-2 league records.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Quakers stormed out to an early 10-4 advantage, but four first-quarter points apiece from DeFrancesco and Afolabi-Brown helped Lynchburg cut the visitors' lead to 12-10 after 10 minutes.

- The two squads traded blows in the second, Lynchburg kept afloat by DeFrancesco's pair of clutch 3s, as Guilford entered halftime with a 27-25 lead.

- Lynchburg's defense locked the Quakers down in the second half, forcing 12 Quaker turnovers in the final 20 minutes and holding GC to a 20-percent shooting clip (5-for-25) from the field. Those stops translated into points and Lynchburg vaulted on an 18-4 run sandwiched around the quarter break to take control of the game.

LOOKING AHEAD

Lynchburg will take a trip on Saturday, Feb. 3 for a road date with the Hornets of Shenandoah University. Tip-off in SU's brand new Wilkins Center is set for 2 p.m.
