Lexington, Va.--  The University of Lynchburg volleyball split the day with a 3-1 loss against Washington and Lee in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference match and got a big 3-2 win in a non conference match against Stevenson.

Lynchburg opened the day with a tough 25-16,25-15, 23-25, 25-23 loss to the Generals of Washington and Lee.

The Hornets picked up the heat in the afternoon and defeated Stevenson 25-20, 28-26, 17-25, 19-25, 15-9.

Junior hitter Sydney Frink (Chester, Va.) lead the pack with 24 kills at the net, 18 digs, and assisted in six blocks between the two matches. Junior blocker Disa Haugsdahl (Warrenton, Va.) earned 11 kills, five digs, and one block. Junior setter Erin Farina (Crozet, Va.) tallied 58 assists, 19 digs, and three service aces.

Match 1 Final: Washington and Lee 3, Lynchburg 1 ( 25-16,25-15, 23-25, 25-23)

Match 2 Final: Lynchburg 3, Stevenson (25-20, 28-26, 17-25, 19-25, 15-9)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Match 1

• Washington and Lee took the first two sets from the Hornets 25-16 and 25-15.

• Lynchburg was behind in the third set 21-16, but battled back hard to score the last five points and defeat the Generals 25-23.

• Lynchburg and the Generals kept the fight going all the way to the end of the fourth set, but the Hornets fell behind 23-19 and Washington and Lee took the final set 25-23.

Match 2

• Lynchburg jumped on an early lead against Stevenson, which payed of giving the Hornets a 25-20 win.

• Half way through the second set Lynchburg was down 14-9, but closed the gap after a six point rally with Haugsdahl behind the service line. Lynchburg carried the momentum and won the set 28-26.

• Stevenson and Lynchburg were closely matched, but Stevenson ended up taking the next two sets tying up the match 2-2.

• Going into the fifth and final set Lynchburg held nothing back. The Hornets racked up 10 points creating a large 10-1 lead. Stevenson went on the attack, but failed giving the Hornets the set and the match.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Hornets will be back home Tuesday Oct 9 to face off with Randolph-Macon in Turner Gymnasium at 7 pm.
