Lynchburg, Va. -- Behind two-goal performances from senior midfielder Nikki Simpao (Fredericksburg, Va.) and sophomore forward Maggie Chiappazzi (Poquoson, Va.), University of Lynchburg's field hockey team blew past visiting Frostburg State, 7-0, Monday afternoon on Lynchburg's Shellenberger Field.

Sophomore forwards Jackie Lerro (Royersford, Pa.) and Emily Dudley (Westminster, Md.) each tallied a goal and an assist for the Hornets.

Sophomore goalkeeper Laurel Nicks (Yorktown, Va.) and the Hornet defense posted their second-straight shutout as Lynchburg out-shot the Bobcats, 27-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Hornets wasted no time getting on the board as Dudley opened the scoring with an unassisted eighth-minute goal.

• Chiappazzi landed the next blow, taking Dudley's feed to score her first-career goal in the 15th minute.

• Lynchburg doubled the lead just before halftime behind a 30th-minute goal from senior forward Isabella Eldridge (Mount Pleasant, S.C.), assisted by Lerro, and Chiappazzi's 34th-minute strike on an assist by freshman defender Kaylie Truitt (Lewes, Del.)

• After senior midfielder Kayla Copeman (Williamsburg, Va.) found Lerro in the 36th minute for a score, Simpao added her two goals as insurance to ice the rout.

LOOKING AHEAD

Lynchburg will remain home for the weekend, taking on Alvernia at 11 a.m. at the Liberty University Field Hockey Complex.
