Lynchburg, Va. -- The University of Lynchburg's Homecoming went off to a good start as the Hornets' field hockey team extended its win streak to seven in a row Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over Eastern Menonnite.

The Hornets (12-3, 5-0 ODAC) were able to celebrate the team's Senior Day with another shut out on the season and its only senior, Lindsay Riley, scored the first goal of the game for Lynchburg on an assist from junior Jackie Lerro.

Lynchburg took the 1-0 lead into the break, and despite taking 10 corners in the first half, the Royals' defense held the Hornet offense to only one goal. 

The Hornets totaled 34 shots on the day, and late in the fourth quarter, freshman Kessa Romero found the back of the cage on an assist from junior Alex Rebman. Shortly after, junior Maggie Chiappazzi cemented the 3-0 victory with an unassisted goal of her own.

The Lynchburg defense did not give up a shot to EMU on the afternoon and it was Lynchburg's fourth shutout of the season as the Hornets remained undefeated in ODAC play. 

Lynchburg's field hockey team will be back in action on the road on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. with another Old Dominion Athletic Conference match as the Hornets take on the Generals of Washington and Lee.
