No. 20 field hockey tops Roanoke as Dudley scores twice

Box Score

Salem, Va. -- Emily Dudley scored two goals, the defense extended its shutout streak to three, and the 20th-ranked University of Lynchburg's field hockey team claimed a 2-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory at Roanoke Wednesday evening.

Dudley put the Hornets on top early with a third-minute goal assisted by Jackie Lerro, and she deflected a feed from Lerro into the left side of the cage to give Lynchburg (9-3, 2-0 ODAC) some breathing room in the 44th minute.

Meanwhile, the Hornet defense was stifling again as the back line held Roanoke (7-5, 0-2) without a shot-on-goal. Lynchburg's defense and goalkeeper Laurel Nicks haven't allowed a goal in more than 180 minutes.

The Hornets will put that mark and their four-game win streak on the line Saturday in another tough road test, a rematch of the 2018 ODAC championship game at Shenandoah.
