Box Score Lynchburg, Va. — Alissa Smalls' 18 points led four University of Lynchburg women's basketball players in double figures as the Hornets stormed past Meredith for an 81-60 season-opening victory Sunday afternoon.
The sophomore guard added five rebounds, five assists, and two steals, shooting 4-for-6 from 3-point range.
Maggie Quarles (15 points), Erin Green (11 points), Abby Oguich (10 points) joined Smalls in double-figure scoring. Oguich added five boards and three assists.
The victory was also the 150th in the career of Lynchburg head coach Abby Pyzik Smith. She becomes the second Lynchburg women's basketball coach to reach that milestone, and she is the fastest to do so in nine seasons and one game.
Lynchburg (1-0) shot a smoldering 11-for-19 from 3-point territory, and the Hornets' forced 23 Meredith turnovers.
Kate Perko led the Avenging Angels (1-1) with 18 points and five rebounds.
The victory extends Lynchburg's win streak in season-openers to five years.
Lynchburg's women's basketball team will be back in action Tuesday, Nov. 12 with a short roadtrip to Danville for a 7 p.m. trip at Averett.
