Lynchburg, Va. -- For the second time this week, University of Lynchburg's baseball team dug out of an early hole for a big midweek win, 15-7, at home against non-conference foe Averett.

Freshman first baseman Cameron Lane (Manassas, Va.) scored three runs out of the leadoff spot in the Lynchburg batting order, and freshman catcher Kaden Warren (Berryville, Va.) had two RBI and scored twice.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Averett made use of five hits and two Lynchburg errors to score five times in the top of the first. Lynchburg struck back for a run on Jackson's RBI groundout in the bottom half.

  • Sophomore right-hander Michael Reiskind (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) calmed things down for the Hornets with 2 ⅔ shutout innings.

  • The Cougars scored on a wild pitch to lead 6-1 in the top of the sixth, but Lynchburg pulled the drain plug in the bottom half. Warren tripled home a pair of runs to start the waterfall, followed by Jackson hitting into a run-scoring Cougars error and Fiedler's two-run double that tied the score at 6.

  • Averett retook the lead with a run in the seventh, but the Hornets struck back for seven in the inning. Freshman left fielder Kevin Chung (South Riding, Va.) tied the game with a sacrifice fly, Jackson's single put the Hornets ahead, and Lynchburg poured it on to lead 13-7 after the inning.

  • Jackson and Fiedler added RBI knocks in the eighth to bring the score to its final standing.
