HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1

  • E&H got an early 1-0 lead against Carson, the Game 1 starter, but the Hornets struck back with a four-run second. Freshman center fielder Carrson Atkins (Charlottesville, Va.) put the Hornets ahead with a two-run double. Sophomore first baseman Avery Combs (Lynchburg, Va.) made it a 6-1 Lynchburg lead with his own two-run double an inning later.

  • The Wasps cut the lead to 6-3, but Pond's two-run home run in the sixth extended the lead to 8-3.

  • Fiedler homered an inning later, and the Hornets quelled a few E&H rallies in the late innings to preserve the win.

Game 2

  • Lynchburg took a 3-0 lead in the third thanks to a two-run single off the bat of freshman catcher Kaden Warren (Berryville, Va.) followed by an RBI double from freshman third baseman Garrett Jackson (Virginia Beach, Va.).

  • The Wasps tied the game at 3 in the fourth thanks to some Lynchburg fielding miscues.

  • The Hornets retook the lead in the fifth thanks to Carson's three-run homer, the first of his career.

  • Lynchburg added to the lead in the eighth on a bases-loaded, three-run double from freshman first baseman Cameron Lane (Manassas, Va.) and again in the ninth to take a 12-3 lead.

  • Junior right-hander Hunter Campbell (Lynchburg, Va.) was dazzling, tossing eight innings and allowing just one earned run. Campbell struck out seven in his second win of the season.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Hornets will continue ODAC play Wednesday, April 3 with a midweek contest against No. 9 Randolph-Macon. First pitch on Fox Field will be thrown at 3 p.m.
