Lexington, Va. -- The No. 20-ranked University of Lynchburg men's lacrosse team forced overtime on the road at 18th-ranked Washington and Lee, but the Generals' Jack Ware scored the game-winning goal in the extra period to cinch a 10-9 win for the hosts.

Three Hornets -- junior midfielder Colin Dean (Havre de Grace, Md.), junior attackman Trammel Robinson (Memphis, Tenn.) and senior attackman Evan Lombardo (Franklin Park, N.J.) -- scored twice in the contest.

Senior goalie Patrick Cornelius (Potomac, Md.) made nine saves and collected six ground balls for the Hornets.

Ware scored a game-high four goals for W&L, which assumed sole possession of first place in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference standings with the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Hornets jumped out to an early lead as Dean scored twice in the first 7 minutes. Washington and Lee scored twice before the first quarter's end as the teams were tied, 2-2, after 15 minutes.

• W&L took the lead early in the second, but freshman attackman Kyle Lewis (Suwanee, Ga.) and Robinson scored later in the period as Lynchburg took a 4-3 lead into halftime.

• Lombardo scored twice in the third to help the Hornets hold onto the lead. Lynchburg led 6-5 with 15 minutes to play.

• The Generals scored twice in a row to take their first lead of the game, 7-6, with 9:50 remaining, but Lynchburg responded with a goal from junior midfielder Brooks Poli (Downingtown, Pa.). W&L took the lead twice more in the fourth, but the Hornets punched back both times with goals from Robinson and junior midfielder Kevin Rogers (Leesburg, Va.). Rogers' goal with 16 seconds remaining forced overtime.

• W&L won the face-off in OT, and Ware scored 59 seconds into the period to notch the win for the Generals.

LOOKING AHEAD

Lynchburg will hit the road again Wednesday, April 24 for an ODAC clash with Guilford. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
