Ashland, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's baseball team polished off a season sweep of nationally ranked Randolph-Macon Tuesday with a 13-11 on the road in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After R-MC took an early 2-0 lead, Lynchburg responded with five runs in the second. Alvanos plated the first run with a bases-loaded walk, followed by Atkins' two-run double that put the Hornets ahead. Sophomore shortstop Parker Shaffer (Richmond, Va.) and graduate student right fielder Kinston Carson (Tappahannock, Va.) each added sacrifice flies in the inning.

  • The Yellow Jackets took an 8-5 lead with runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, but Lynchburg struck back again with four in the sixth. Fiedler delivered the big blow, a three-run double.

  • R-MC rallied again in the bottom of the sixth for an 11-9 lead, but Lynchburg again had the answer, this time in the eighth. Alvanos' two-run single put the visitors ahead for good, and Atkins added the final run with a single to center field.

  • Sophomore left-hander Adam Dofflemyer (Harrisonburg, Va.) earned the win with a scoreless 1 ⅓ innings of relief, while sophomore right-hander Santiago Meneses (Guatemala City, GUATEMALA) shut the Yellow Jackets out in the final two innings for the save.
