Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's men's lacrosse team advanced to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference final for the sixth-straight season Saturday with a 20-11 drubbing of Hampden-Sydney on Shellenberger Field.

Senior attackman Evan Lombardo (Franklin Park, N.J.) scored five goals for Lynchburg in the win, while senior attackman Logan Adams (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) chipped in a goal and four assists.

Senior attackman Andrew Thomas (Roswell, Ga.) and senior midfielder Nick Willertz (Severn, Md.) each tallied hat tricks in the game, and junior attackman Colin Dean (Havre de Grace, Md.) collected two goals and three assists.

It was the second-seeded Hornets' second win over the Tigers, the No. 3 seed, in seven days and propelled Lynchburg into tomorrow's 1 p.m. championship game at top-seeded Washington and Lee.

Lynchburg and Hampden-Sydney were originally scheduled to play Friday evening in Lexington, Va., but stormy weather throughout the evening forced the game to be postponed and moved to Lynchburg.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The first quarter started with an impressive offensive showing from both teams. Lynchburg got on the board first with a goal from Lombardo, assisted by Adams. The Hornets created a 3-0 lead before Hampden-Sydney answered back with three goals of their own. The first quarter ended with Lynchburg leading, 5-4.

• Hampden-Sydney took the lead 6-5 after back-to-back goals early in the second quarter. Lombardo tied it up again with an assist from Adams and Willertz gave Lynchburg the lead back with an assist from junior midfielder Kevin Rogers (Leesburg, Va.). Willertz scored two more unassisted goals and ended the quarter with the Hornets on a 5-0 run and leading 10-6.

• Lynchburg pushed their lead to 13-8 toward the end of the third quarter after senior midfielder Bo Delaney (Marstons Mills, Mass.) won the face-off and shoveled a quick pass to freshman attackman Kyle Lewis (Suwanee, Ga.) for the goal.

• Thomas scored three goals in the final quarter with two assists from Adams and one assist from Dean. Lynchburg finished out the game with a goal by senior face-off specialist Craig Koester (Wildwood, Mo.).

LOOKING AHEAD

Lynchburg will travel to Lexington, Va., to face off with top-seeded Washington and Lee Sunday at 1 p.m. in the ODAC championship game.
