Box Score Salem, Va. -- Freshman Averey Wyscarver notched two goals and an assist, leading five Hornets who scored as the 20th-ranked University of Lynchburg women's soccer team rolled by Mt. St. Mary for its first win of the 2019 season Saturday at Roanoke College's Kerr Stadium.
Wyscarver scored in the 41st and 81st minute and assisted Sarah Barnes' 77th-minute goal as the Hornets scored four unanswered goals in the second half to put the match away.
Lynchburg (1-1) got on the board first when junior Dana Seavey scored, unassisted, in the 19th minute. After the Knights (0-2) tied the match at 1 two minutes later, Taylor Stevens scored on an Alyssa Rudy assist in the 32nd minute to put Lynchburg up for good, and Wyscarver's first goal put the Hornets ahead 3-1 headed into halftime.
Emma Hiett, Barnes, Wyscarver and Alyssa Damato all scored in the second half as the Hornets ran away with the match.
Lynchburg out-shot MSMC, 24-6.
The Hornets are back on the pitch next weekend, making their home debut at noon Saturday, Sept. 7 vs. Maryville in the first match of the annual Shellenberger Classic.
