Field hockey shut out by Kean

Box Score

Lynchburg, Va. -- Despite goalkeeper Laurel Nicks' season-high seven saves, University of Lynchburg's field hockey team dropped a 3-0 decision to visiting Kean Saturday on Shellenberger Field.

Melissa Way scored twice in the first half to put Kean (5-1) out in front, and Cougars freshman Peyton Mann added the visitors' third goal in the 47th minute.

Lynchburg (2-2) out-shot the Cougars by a 16-13 count and took nine penalty corners to Kean's three, but Kean goalie Belly Reynoso keps the Hornets off the board with nine saves.

Hornets goalie Alex Boatwright made Lynchburg's eighth save -- and the first of the sophomore's career -- entering late in the second period to stop a Cougars penalty stroke.

The Hornets will have a quick turnaround. Lynchburg is back in action Sunday, Sept. 15 at noon against Dickinson at the Liberty University Field Hockey Complex.
