Field hockey comes back to top Dickinson

Box Score

Lynchburg, Va. -- Taylor Jones' first-career goal gave University of Lynchburg's field hockey team a 2-1 lead early in the fourth quarter, and the Hornets held on to best Dickinson by that score Sunday afternoon at the Liberty University Field Hockey Complex.

Jones took a feed from Jackie Lerro directly in front of the cage and finished into its open left side to break a 1-1 tie as Lynchburg (3-2) completed the comeback.

DC (3-3) drew first blood in the game on Maddie Dombroski's 20th-minute goal and took that lead late into the third quarter.

With 1 second remaining in the third, Alexis Brown's shot hit off a defender's foot right in front of the cage, resulting in a penalty stroke that Brown converted to tie the game.

Laurel Nicks made four saves in the cage to keep the Hornets in the contest.

Lynchburg will take the midweek off before returning home to Shellenberger Field Saturday, Sept. 21 for a 2 p.m. matchup with Mary Washington.
