Field hockey blanked by Spartans

Box Score

Lynchburg, Va. -- Despite out-shooting visiting York, University of Lynchburg's field hockey team fell to the Spartans by a 1-0 score Saturday afternoon at Shellenberger Field.

Lynchburg (5-3) got down 1-0 early in the first quarter after a Spartan goal scored by Abby Piotrowski on an assist from Sam Collis.

The Hornets outshot the Spartans, 12-10, on the afternoon but came away with no goals to show for it. Junior Jackie Lerro had four shots; freshman Kessa Romero and sophomore Kaylie Truitt each had three shots.

Junior goalkeeper Laurel Nicks recorded four saves on the Spartans' five shots-on-goal and the Hornet defense kept the Spartan offense at bay after allowing the first quarter goal.

The University of Lynchburg field hockey team will be back in action Sunday, Sept. 29 versus No. 2-ranked Rowan at 1 p.m. at the Liberty University Field Hockey Complex.
