Box Score Bridgewater, Va. -- Despite Maggie Quarles' first-career double-double, University of Lynchburg's women's basketball team fell, 79-73, to Old Dominion Athletic Conference foe Bridgewater Saturday evening.
Quarles tallied 20 points and a career-best 10 rebounds in the losing effort.
Abby Oguich (15 points) and Lizzie Davis (10 points) joined Quarles in double figures, while Alissa Smalls (seven points, 10 assists) became the eighth player in program history to record double-digit assists in a game.
Bridgewater (10-8, 9-2 ODAC) used a huge third period to open up an 18-point lead, but Lynchburg (8-10, 5-6) charged back to cut the deficit to six in the final minute of the fourth. BC, led by Madison Baum's 34 points, made six straight free throws in the final 40 seconds to seal the win.
The result ended Lynchburg's nine-game win streak against the Eagles, dating back to 2013.
Prior to the game and at halftime, Lynchburg women's basketball celebrated its Alumnae Day, with more than two dozen former Hornet players in attendance.
Lynchburg will look to get back on the winning track Wednesday, Jan. 29 with another home ODAC contest against Hollins at 7 p.m. The Hornets took the season's first meeting between the two, 73-60, November 20 in Roanoke.
