Lynchburg, Va. -- Emily Yanes scored in the 59th minute to break a scoreless tie, leading the 17th-ranked University of Lynchburg field hockey team to a 1-0 Homecoming win over Randolph-Macon Saturday afternoon.

The Hornets dominated from the first whistle, logging 14 shots and 11 penalty corners in the first quarter. The Yellow Jackets defense held, however, thanks to 12 first-half saves from R-MC goalie Gatlin Snyder, who played admirably all day between the pipes.

Lynchburg kept the pressure on, totaling 43 shots, 25 of which were on goal. The Hornets still couldn't break through until the waning minutes. Shortly after earning their 25th and final penalty corner, Yanes wound up with the ball at the top of the arc and ripped a shot inside the right post to put the home team ahead.

It was the junior's seventh shot of the day, making her one of three Lynchburg players to take seven or more in the contest. Meanwhile, Kayla Brady made saves in both her opportunities for the Hornets' fifth shutout of the season.

Lynchburg (9-4, 4-1 ODAC) will look to continue its winning ways at home Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Ferrum.
