Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- Jackie Lerro bagged a hat trick, 11 different players scored, and the No. 18-ranked University of Lynchburg field hockey team scored early and often on its way to a 14-0 shellacking of Ferrum Wednesday night on Shellenberger Field.
The Hornets wasted no time getting on the board, as Emma Strouse scored just 35 seconds in on a Brittany Claybaugh assist.
Lynchburg dominated the rest of the game. The Hornets scored eight goals in the first quarter, including two each from Lerro and Emily Dudley, and cruised into halftime with an 11-0 lead.
Lerro added her third in the 44th minute -- her second hat trick of the season and 10th of her career -- for Lynchburg's 13th tally, and a Sydney Metz goal in the 51st minute brought the deficit to 14-0.
Emily Yanes, Kessa Romero, Skylar Dise, Brooke Hyland, Jenna Tangires, Sarah Miller-Richards, and Sarah McCollum also scored for Lynchburg in the blowout. Meghan Mayo logged the first three assists of her collegiate career -- in doing so, she became the 17th Lynchburg player to record three or more assists in a game -- and Lerro, Claybaugh, and Strouse each assisted a pair of Hornet goals.
It was Lynchburg's highest goal total and largest margin of victory since topping Ferrum by the same score on Oct. 30, 2019.
The Hornets (10-4, 5-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) will take a break from conference play Friday with a trip to Christopher Newport for a matchup between regionally ranked teams; Lynchburg checked in third in the NCAA's first Region VI rankings of the season (announced Wednesday), while CNU is ranked second.
