Box Score Bridgewater, Va. -- Jackie Lerro involved herself in five scores Wednesday night as the No. 19-ranked University of Lynchburg field hockey team rolled to a 6-0 win over Bridgewater on the road.
Lerro totaled three goals -- her ninth-career hat trick -- and contributed two assists to the cause as the Hornets extended their regular-season conference win streak to 31 games. Emily Yanes added a pair of goals for Lynchburg, and Aaryn Boatwright scored the other and assisted one of Lerro's.
The Hornets got the scoring started in the 12th minute, when Boatwright took a feed from Kessa Romero and put it into the cage.
Lynchburg carried the 1-0 advantage into the second quarter, but the visitors managed to add some breathing room before halftime. In the 23rd minute, Yanes put her first one past the defense on a Lerro assist for a 2-0 Hornet lead.
Lerro helped Lynchburg put a bow on the game in the third, scoring all three of her goals and assisting the other as the Hornets exploded for four goals in the penultimate period. She leapt into the scoring column in the 33rd minute, recovering a loose ball and scoring to make it 3-0 and added another quick one just over a minute later on an Emily Dudley assist.
Less than a minute after that, Yanes caged her second goal of the evening (another Lerro assist), and Lerro put an exclamation point on the rout with a 38th-minute score thanks to Boatwright's assist.
The Hornets (7-3, 2-0 ODAC) out-shot their hosts by an 18-1 margin as the defense completed its third shutout and second in the past three games.
Winners of six in a row, Lynchburg will continue the ODAC portion of its schedule at home Friday against Eastern Mennonite. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
