Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- Jackie Lerro's hat trick propelled University of Lynchburg's field hockey team into the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament semifinals with Tuesday night's 3-0 win over Bridgewater.
Lerro got the third-seeded Hornets on the board in the 12th minute, shoveling in a rebounded save off Emily Dudley's shot. Lynchburg managed 16 shots in the first half but couldn't break through again -- BC goalie Brooke Hamm had five of her 14 saves in the first and second quarters -- and the Hornets took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
Lynchburg exploded for two more goals in a one-minute span in the third. Lerro put the first in the back of the cage in the 38th minute on an Emily Yanes assist and again 24 seconds later, again Lerro, who chased down a loose ball, circled around the defense and scored her third goal of the evening.
It was Lerro's second hat trick of the season -- both coming against Bridgewater -- and the 10th of her decorated Lynchburg career.
Kayla Brady made her lone save in the fourth period to record her seventh shutout of the season in goal.
Lynchburg (13-6) advances to Thursday's 7 p.m. conference semifinal at second-seeded and No. 19-ranked Shenandoah.
