Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- Despite double-figure scoring efforts from Olivia Harris and Lizzie Davis, University of Lynchburg's women's basketball team dropped a 69-58 decision to archrival Roanoke Saturday in a rematch of the 2021 Old Dominion Athletic Conference title game.
Harris scored a team-best 13 points off the bench for the Hornets, while Davis chipped in 11 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
The teams were back and forth at the game's beginning in a first quarter that featured three ties and three lead changes, the last of which was a Taylor Gantt layup at the buzzer that put the Hornets ahead, 16-14.
Lynchburg extended the lead to four with a Kate Kolb bucket early in the second, but the Roanoke came charging. The Maroons ripped off a 12-4 run to take the lead and never again trailed.
Leading by eight at the half, Morgan Micallef scored eight points for RC in the third period to push the lead into double digits. Harris also had eight in the third, hitting a key 3 at the 1:11 mark that shrank the lead back to 44-41, but Roanoke scored the final six points of the third to open the deficit back up.
The Maroons charged ahead by as many as 16 in the fourth, but a late charged bolstered by Brooke Vetter's eight fourth-period points helped the Hornets hang around.
Roanoke scored on its final two possessions to ice the win, ending Lynchburg's 13-game home win streak and avenging last year's conference championship game.
Kolb had six points, five rebounds, and two blocks off the bench for Lynchburg, and Sarah Johnson snagged 10 rebounds to go with her four points.
Lynchburg (5-3, 2-2 ODAC) will take a break from conference play Monday with a noon tip-off against Meredith at home.
