Women's hoops' hot start downs Meredith

Box Score

Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's women's basketball team scored the first 17 points of the ballgame Monday as the Hornets rolled to a 69-47 out-of-conference win over Meredith.

The Hornets led 17-0 with 4:20 remaining in the first and led 26-4 after the first 10 minutes, cruising to victory. Four Lynchburg players scored in double figures, highlighted by Olivia Harris' 16 points on 7-for-7 shooting. Lizzie Davis added 12 points, Kate Kolb chipped in 11, and Brooke Vetter scored 10 in the rout.

Lynchburg took the lead on its second possession after Vetter snagged an offensive rebound and put it in the basket, and Davis polished off the 17-0 early run with a jumper at the 4:20 mark. The Hornets committed a foul after the ensuing timeout, and MC's Danika Ray made a free throw with 4:01 on the clock for the Avenging Angels' first points. Davis had a team-best seven points in the first quarter.

Lynchburg continued to pour it on and led 36-10 at halftime after Harris knocked down a 3 to end the second.

Harris scored eight of her 16 after halftime to help the Hornets keep the lead.

Davis rounded out her stat line with seven rebounds, six steals, and three assists; and Erin Green had eight points, five blocks, and four rebounds.

It was the third time this season Lynchburg has held an opponent under 50 points in a game; the Hornets are 3-0 in those contests.

Lynchburg will break for the holidays before returning to action at Roanoke College's Susan Dunagan Holiday Classic December 29-30. The Hornets will open the tournament against unbeaten and No. 9-ranked Christopher Newport.
