Box Score Greensboro, N.C. -- Junior Brandon Pond struck out 11 batters in a losing effort as University of Lynchburg's baseball team fell, 3-0, at Greensboro Sunday in non-conference action.
Pond pitched six strong innings and scattered six hits, but the right-hander didn't get any run support in the ballgame. The Hornets (1-2) managed just three hits on the afternoon.
Greensboro (2-1) took the lead in the bottom of the fourth on back-to-back two-out doubles by Chance Bryant and Scotty McGuire. The Pride added another run on Brayden King's RBI double in the fifth and the final run on a Michael Garvey Jr. RBI single in the seventh.
The Hornets got runners in scoring position in the third, fourth, fifth, and ninth innings but could never cash in, leaving eight men on base.
Senior Santiago Meneses finished the game on the mound for the Hornets with 1 ⅓ scoreless innings of relief work.
Lynchburg will make its home debut next time out, Wednesday, February 24 in a non-conference tilt against Averett.
