Emory, Va. -- University of Lynchburg women's soccer team shut out Emory & Henry by at 2-0 score Sunday afternoon in the program's 2021 season opener. 

The Hornets (1-0, 1-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) and Wasps played to a scoreless tie at the end of the first 45 minutes of play. Lynchburg created ample opportunities to score as the Hornets amassed 23 shots on the E&H defense in the first half, but none found the middle of the uprights.

In the second half, Lynchburg continued its barrage of shots as the Hornets took 22 more on the afternoon. In the 56th minute, freshly substitued in sophomore Madison Myers connected with fellow sophomore Alyssa Damato, who found the back of the net to put Lynchburg up. 

In the 81st minute, junior Taylor Smith scored her first goal of the season on an assist from freshman Abbie Little, and the Hornets went up 2-0 with no answer from the Wasps (0-1, 0-1).

Lynchburg took 45 total shots on the afternoon with junior Amanda Wigboldy contributing 11 and Damato with seven.

The match ends the ODAC series between the two schools with E&H leaving for NCAA Division II at season's end. Lynchburg is 21-0 all-time against the Wasps.

University of Lynchburg women's soccer will be back in action at home on Friday, February 26 as the Hornets take on Piedmont College at 6 p.m. in a non-conference tilt between regional powers.
