Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- Maggie Quarles scored 16 points in the final 2:20, Abby Oguich notched another double-double, and University of Lynchburg's women's basketball team earned a 63-58 win over Shenandoah Wednesday night in Old Dominion Athletic Conference play.
Quarles scored just two points in her first 30 minutes on the floor Wednesday, but the senior from Roanoke came up big down the stretch.
Just after Shenandoah (1-3, 0-2 ODAC) erased a double-digit deficit, Quarles responded with a 3-pointer for a 51-49 Lynchburg lead. SU tied the game on its next possession, but Quarles had the counterpunch again, grabbing an offensive board and converting the stickback for an and-1 play. She proceeded to shoot 9-for-9 from the free throw stripe and 3-for-3 from the field in the waning minutes to help the Hornets secure the victory.
Quarles' 18 points marked a season-high for the senior, who has scored in double figures in three of Lynchburg's four contests. Oguich's 13 points and 15 rebounds marked the junior's second double-double of the season. Lizzie Davis added 13 points, seven rebounds, and four assists for Lynchburg (3-1, 3-1).
Trailing by five midway through the first period, the host Hornets used an 11-0 run to lead 18-14 at the first intermission. SU led by one at the half, but by early in the fourth, Lynchburg had built a 10-point lead after a Kate Kolb layup and looked on the road to victory. Shenandoah responded, though, with a 13-2 run, culminating in Ragan Johnson's basket with 2:34 remaining that put the visitors in front.
Then Quarles stepped in to finish the game on a tear.
The win snapped a two-game losing skid against Shenandoah, and Lynchburg improved to 9-3 against SU since the university joined the ODAC in 2012-13.
Sierra St. Cyr led the Shenandoah attack with 24 points.
Lynchburg's women's basketball team is back in action Friday, this time on the road with an ODAC contest at Ferrum College. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
