Box Score Danville, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's baseball team extended its winning streak to four games Wednesday with a 9-4 road victory over Averett.
The Hornets scored a pair of runs in each of the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Eight Lynchburg players drove in runs in the all-around team victory.
Averett jumped on top 1-0 in the second inning, but the Hornets fought back in the top of the third, tying the game on Kinston Carson's RBI triple and taking the lead on a Garrett Jackson run-scoring groundout.
The hosts knotted the score again with a third-inning run, but Brandon Pond's solo home run in the fourth, followed by a Dylan Fisher RBI double, put Lynchburg ahead for good.
Fisher drove in another run an inning later, drawing a bases-loaded walk, and the Hornets added insurance in the sixth and ninth innings.
Left-hander Adam Dofflemyer earned the win on the mound with 2 ⅔ innings of relief, allowing just one unearned run.
The Hornets have scored nine or more runs in each game over the four-game win streak.
Lynchburg (6-6) will set its sights on Old Dominion Athletic Conference play Saturday with a league doubleheader against Roanoke College at Salem Memorial Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
