Box Score Lynchburg, Va.-- University of Lynchburg's field hockey team routed Bridgewater 11-1 at home on Friday night in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference matchup.
The Hornets (2-0, 2-0 ODAC) got out to an early 1-0 lead after an Emma Strouse shot found the back of the Eagles' cage at the 3:10 mark. Just 45 seconds later, Strouse assisted a goal from freshman Aaryn Boatwright to put Lynchburg up 2-0. The Hornets scored three more times in the first quarter on goals from Brooke Hyland, Emily Yanes and Sydney Metz to take a 5-0 lead. The Eagles scored their lone goal at the 12:35 mark after Courtney Cooke snuck one into the Lynchburg cage to cut the Lynchburg lead to 5-1.
The Eagles (1-1, 1-1) held the Hornets at bay for most of the second quarter, but Boatwright scored in the final minute of the quarter, sending Lynchburg into the break leading 6-1.
Lynchburg scored five more times on the night as Yanes scored her second of the game and senior Jackie Lerro and sophomore Kessa Romero each tallied a pair of their own. The Hornets totaled 31 shots with 23 on frame.
Senior Maggie Chiappazzi had two of the Hornets' five assists on the night as Strouse, Lerro and Taylor Green each contributed one.
In the cage, Laurel Nicks had two saves and Alex Boatwright made one save on the lone Bridegwater shot against her.
Lynchburg field hockey will be back in action on Tuesday, March 16 at 7 p.m. as the Hornets take on the Washington and Lee Generals in another ODAC contest.
