Box Score Virginia Beach, Va. -- University of Lynchburg's field hockey team shut out Virginia Wesleyan University, 10-0, on the road on Tuesday afternoon for its sixth straight win.
The Hornets (6-0, 6-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) scored four times in the opening period as junior Brittany Claybaugh and senior Emily Dudley scored in consecutive minutes to put Lynchburg ahead 2-0. In the 13th minute, Dudley scored her second of the contest off an assist from Jackie Lerro and then in the 14th minute, Alexis Brown scored the Hornets' fourth of the period.
Lynchburg scored once more before the intermission as Lerro notched her first of two in the game in the 21st minute.
After the intermission, the Hornets proceeded to score five more times, all in the third period, to take a 10-0 lead where the score remained to the final whistle.
The Lynchburg offense amassed 48 shots on the afternoon with 35 on frame. Lerro led the offense with nine, followed by seven from Dudley.
The Hornets' defense was on display again as the Marlins (1-5, 1-5) did not record a shot in the contest. Senior Laurel Nicks earned her sixth win on the year.
Lynchburg field hockey will be back in action on Friday, April 9 at 7 p.m. as the Hornets travel to Eastern Mennonite University to take on the Royals in another ODAC matchup.
