Auburn, Ala. -- University of Lynchburg's National Collegiate Equestrian Association team continued its season Saturday with a pair of meets at the Auburn University Equestrian Center, falling to the host and top-ranked Tigers, 9-1, and to Sweet Briar, 8-1.
Lynchburg set a new program-best mark for team points in a meet in the opening loss to Auburn, scoring 748 in sum.
Hornets sophomore Lori Ohannessian started off strong, winning a point over fences with a 75-point ride on Max, besting her Auburn counterpart by 10 points, according to the judges. Lynchburg's five riders averaged 75 points per ride in the fences section of competition, highlighted by Jacqi Needle's 82-point circuit.
On the flat, Taylor Herzog turned in an 86-point ride atop Nonstop, the highest-rated single ride for Lynchburg on the day, and Ohannessian scored out at 84 points on Sully.
Later on, Lynchburg also rode well against Sweet Briar, highlighted by Needle's victory on Maverick over fences, which was judged at 85 points. Ohannessian had another strong ride over fences as well, teaming up with Player to score 83 points.
Kelley McCormick highlighted the flat in the meet, turning in a 75-point ride on Marion to tie her opponent.
Lynchburg's NCEA team will hit the road again next week, this time for Texas, where the Hornets will take on TCU on Thursday, March 11 and SMU the following day.
