Box Score Lynchburg, Va. -- University of Lynchburg baseball extended its unbeaten streak on Fox Field to 12 in a row Sunday afternoon as the Hornets topped Eastern Mennonite 2-1 behind a complete game from Zack Potts and a two-run home run off the bat of Kinston Carson.
This season, Lynchburg has had a knack for falling behind early but coming away with the victory in the end. Sunday afternoon was no different as the Hornets (22-10, 12-4 Old Dominion Athletic Conference) fell behind 1-0 in the third inning as two Royals singles and a fielder's choice led to an Eastern Mennonite run. The lone run Lynchburg pitching would allow.
In the home half of the fifth, freshman Ryan Long led off the inning with a single through the left side. Two batters later, with two outs, Carson parked the first pitch he saw over the right field fence to put the Hornets in front 2-1. Neither team plated a run over the final four frames.
Lynchburg starter, Zack Potts, went the distance for a complete game as the sophomore stymied the Royals lineup. Potts allowed just one run on three hits, walked one and punched out eight for his fifth win of the year. Eastern Mennonite starter John Judy was handed the loss for the Royals.
Lynchburg baseball will be back on the diamond on Tuesday, April 20 as the Hornets take on Christopher Newport University in a non-conference matinee. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
